How we got here
We’ve been friends for nearly 20 years, starting in 2006 when we were paired together as roommates during our freshman year at Tufts University. After making it through living together in a 10’ x 10’ concrete cube & still enjoying spending time together, we knew that we’d found something special. We’ve since stood by at each others weddings, watched each other grow our respective families, and have remained close friends over time.
Our Backstory
Here’s What Motivates Each of Us
Luke lives in Greenfield, NH along with his wife (Jordan) and their two kids (Maggie, Colin).
Luke grew up in Jaffrey, a small town at the foot of Mount Monadnock in the southwestern corner of New Hampshire. The youngest of three brothers, he spent much of his childhood playing in the woods & developing an appreciation for the best parts of the four seasons in New England. Luke’s parents were both deeply active members of the community - teaching at the high school, serving on the town’s planning board, and volunteering for local nonprofits. They demonstrated for Luke & his brothers the extent to which communities depend on engagement of their members in order to thrive.
Luke developed an appreciation of the role that small businesses play in communities while working summers at a local fireworks company. In August each year, after the July 4 surge had passed, the business would take advantage of the temporarily excessive capacity of its summer crews to put on an enormous show, the proceeds from which it donated to the town. The event drew crowds in excess of 30k people to a town with a population of just 5k, and was a tentpole cultural event for the community each year.
AJ has always had the goal of owning and operating his own business, in large part due to the example set by his father, Bob. AJ's Dad immigrated to New Bedford, MA from the Azores (Portugal) at the age of 8. After a many years of working as a commercial electrician, including helping to construct Gillette Stadium (Go Pats!), AJ’s father decided to venture out on his own and successfully started his own residential electrical company on Cape Cod. His father’s company helped AJ realize the value of hard work and getting his hands dirty; more importantly, he was inspired by his father’s own version of the American Dream and has is excited to write his own chapter.
AJ is originally from the Cape where he grew up with a fishing rod in his hand and developed a love for the outdoors. Having lived in-and-around Boston for the last 20 years, some now label him a “Bostonian” or “weekend warrior”.
AJ lives in Chestnut Hill with his wife Kate and son Alfred -- they also love spending time in Maine where Kate is originally from.
